After Siculicidium released the EP A rothadó viragok színüket vesztik in April this year, once winter came, Pestifer and Lugosi Béla decided to release a new material. Also an EP, but this time a 7' EP. Two songs with a little over 11 minutes of Transylvanian black metal, sprinkled with old school black metal influences reminiscent of Beherit or Mortuary Drape, and also some post punk/industrial stuff. Compared to A rothadó virágok színüket vesztik, the music on this Keringők has an almost ritual approach to it. Everything is much more settled down, with a very doomy air at most times. Old school black metal in doom’s clothes. The production has remained the same as ever. No frills and no studio bells and whistles, and to be honest they don’t need anything like this. They don’t need them because Siculicidium sounds authentic, sincere, and hits you straight in the face with old school black metal arising from the depths of Hell.
The first track of this record is Valse triste with a personal approach to the song New Mind of the legendary New Yorker post-punk band Swans. But the song is in no way a cover version. Why? Because Siculicidium only took the instrumental part and overlaid it with a poem by the Hungarian Weöress Sándor. Well, "took" isn’t exactly the best word, because Siculicidium did not copy the Americans’ instrumental part, but rather tried to clad it in Transylvanian clothes and offer it a new identity. An interesting approach, a tribute or a new beginning for a different musical approach in the future.
The second track is Valse Ende. The song writing is in the same direction as the first one, with hypnotic music overlaid with Lugosi Béla’s cavernous voice. I will end by saying that Siculicidium show that they can attempt a different approach to music. The essence has remained the same, with a slight change of direction.
