I had been waiting for a long time to see who would win the style duel: Weiland and his depression or the merry bunch of Guns’N’Roses? Libertad gives me the answer: it is serene and commercial almost all the way through. But it is also very cool, because Wieland palys along and sometimes puts in a stupidly cheerful voice. It is not grunge, it is metal (so maybe we shouldn’t have reviewed it, hehe!), it’s hard-rock (with a twist of alternative), hit-parade-ish and not taking itself seriously. But if you accept it, the genre will get you in no time; I think it’s the kind of album where they tossed a coin to choose a single. Not from all songs, of course; because this is where we have the minus point of this album: it’s a little too long and it could have done without, for instance, the last song, which is almost 9-minute long. And Can’t Get It Out Of My Head, even if that would have meant dropping a slow song that will probably sell a few CD’s to teenage girls in love. For the rest, I recommended to all rock people who can accept softer genres.
