TURBONEGRO - Retox

The Norwegians are at their eighth album, and they have been faithful to their style, they themselves refer to as «deathpunk» - in fact a combination of hard rock and punk. Not too many new things, but I think the production makes the difference (both in good and in bad), involving people working with Green Day, Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Therefore, songs are not consistent, from the weirder (in a good sense) We’re Gonna Drop The Atom Bomb and Welcome To The Garbage Dump to the more clichéd What Is Rock or I Wanna Come. The more interesting songs have a certain feel of White Stripes, Queens Of The Stone Age, maybe even The Stooges (oh well, at least the intro of Do You Dig Destruction is quite certainly from there). The crappier ones are like a diluted Ramones or something of the sort. Friendly to listen to, with very catchy parts, but with too many “anonymous” moments. Probably interesting to see live, where they impress with their gay, Tom of Finland-like style.
