Coming from Timisoara, Syn Ze Sase Tri have now released their second studio album. The record, titled Sub Semnul Lupului (Under the Sign of the Wolf) was released, as their debut album, under the label Code666 and, same as Intre Doua Lumi (2011), presents the same melodic black metal seasoned in places with a few folk elements. Strongly dominated by keyboards and synthesizers, but in a very pleasant manner, reminiscent of old Dimmu Borgir or even Emperor, Sub Semnul Lupului presents us a band that evolves with every day that passes, both in line-up and in the concept they successfully try to imprint and send forth. Having as leader and guitarist Corb, former member of Negura Bunget, Syn Ze Sase Tri offers us almost an hour of melodic and extreme metal, and we can only salute and encourage this. For the time being, what Syn Ze Sase Tri do is all right, whether we consider it in the national metal scene or the international one, but the boys should not rest on their laurels and in the future improve some of the things that might hold their work back. They have a really big ace up their sleeve in their concept. Of course, there are other bands already doing this, such as Negura Bunget, Dordeduh and Siculicidium, but for the world market these three bands retain a degree of uniqueness. With lyrical themes presenting what Romania means for most foreigners, they could include a few more folk interludes or other similar elements that would set them apart of the throng of bands more or less worshipping the Norwegians of Dimmu Borgir or Emperor. And when I say this I rely on songs such as Sub semnul lupului, Simbata apelor and In Pintecul pamintului, which stand witness that this is possible, and Syn Ze Sase Tri is capable of stepping up to the big league. I will end by saying that if you like the melodic black metal of the early years of Dimmu Borgir or Emperor, but you also like Romanian stories and traditions, you will find Syn Ze Sase Tri to be more than interesting. For now I will give them a sincere 8, but also my strong belief that they will be able to do more in the future.
