Tacere! Karri Knuuttila and his band come to shake the very foundations of symphonic metal. They have the same inclination to Latin and quietness as their co-nationals of Silentium, but their metallic views are rather focused on Nightwish or the new Therion, with a guitar tone reminiscent of Children of Bodom. The first point of interest is the dialogue between Helena’s and Karri’s voice, both unconventional and a bit unpolished, yelling too often, sometimes unnecessarily, but ultimately the results are not displeasing to the ear. Karri sometimes stimulates his colleagues to show their virtuosity in complex, classic-inspired executions or riffs that seem to come from Swedish death metal, without taking the hand off the symphonic keyboards. The first two songs are also the best: Deep Tears of Tragedy is power metal with a techno beat, it sounds first class, and so does I Devour, even if the drums are normal this time around, but the riff is bold and the chorus is attractive. However, the same does not apply to the rest of the album, which is skimpy in notable moments or heart-pounding tunes. Still, for a debut album it is not bad.
