And so, I sometimes get the feeling that Lemmy is the father of Uncle Tom, for they are too similar in face and mind. But this is probably another story. Better Off Dead joins the rank of albums one would do better not to search for flaws – you won’t find any, you’re just wasting your time, and you might just make a drunken thrasher friend do something he’d regret to you. Ten years ago I would have said “It is not possible for a metal head to not have listened to Sodom’s Better”. Ten minutes ago, I wouldn’t have dared thinking it; so if you haven’t listened to it yet, get on it or bring your parents to the rock club with the report card. A worthy successor of their previous album, Agent Orange, Better Off Dead gives us twelve tracks – in fact it is yet to be decided which of the two albums is better. This one is slightly softer, only a little, the clobbering with the wooden bat (that breaks bones) has been replaced with a rubber stick, which only tenderizes the meat (and the marshall’s baton is called Coma of Souls, if you would excuse me), and Uncle Tom spoils us with two cover versions, one after heavy metal geezers (Turn Your Head Around - Tank), and another after the late Philip (Cold Sweat – Thin Lizzy). And it is no little thing to somehow bridge the musical gaps between such bands, and do it right. Is it that they have polished their style compared to previous albums or that they wanted a “commercial” album to go for chicks (right) I’ve no idea. What’s certain is that it must be listened to, if there’s still any rocker around lacking this. If not for another reason, because songs like An Eye For an Eye, The Saw Is the Law, Better Off Dead or Stalinorgel are hard to come by, they are the mega-hits of thrash metal. Plus „Resurrection”, a very fine piece that is more than slightly atypical for Sodom (and dedicated by the Uncle to his father – not Lemmy).

Respect maxim ca ai adus albumul in discutie
Mulam fain, respect too.
