Glory Opera are so overwhelmed by the Angra phenomenon that influences are obvious even if you don’t know that they are Brazilian too, or, even more, vocalist Humberto Sobrinho was really close to replacing Andre Matos in 2000, before Eduardo Falaschi appeared. Leaving aside (if you can) the lack of concern for a personal voice, Equilibrium is not a bad album. This symphonic power metal is well produced (Sascha Paeth) and played, and occasional excursions into prog metal are well tied together and reasonable in length. The glory guys have less ethnic influences than their Angra co-nationals, but a little more interest towards influences from other metallic genres, illustrated by some growl, a soprano voice, or parts that vibrate in a Rhapsody-an epic feeling (Drowning into Madness is 25 minutes long). So this is how they play metal in Brazil, and they play it well, but Glory Opera still have a lot to go (especially since now they have some trouble with their members) until they can measure up to their masters.
