A prog-rock gem, this is how I would sum up Synchronized, including elements of progressive metal, gothic, atmospheric, new wave, pop, jazz and even soul, on an electronic skeleton. The keyword here is “experimental”, and the result is not for everyone’s stomach – not from the first audition anyway. Another defining element is the continuous state of surprise; it’s rather hard to guess what the next song will sound like. A combination of so many styles can only give birth to a complex and heterogeneous product, giving out a feeling of inconsistency in places, as if it were a compilation of several bands. Fortunately, this sensation is not prevailing, and the blend is bound together by a feeling of blues that is present everywhere. The female voice is finally a special one, without wannabe soprano pretenses and with an extremely natural tone. The songs that grabbed me are Beautiful, Candyland, Green Knees, Wish It Away, Wounded. A pleasant surprise is their own performance of an old Jewel song, by Marcella Detroit (Shakespear’s Sisters). An excellent album, although I think many would contradict me – yes, this is better: a contradictory album.
