CANVAS SOLARIS - Cortical Tectonis

I fell in love with Canvas Solaris when I first heard Sinusoid Mirage. Perhaps this is also because I had listened to the more restless Berserker Hypothesis, full of nerve and upheavals, and the mirage brought by the second song sent me into another dimension.
Who are Canvas Solaris? An American band starting off to play what they feel, and they feel some very complicated things, at least musically. Influences from Carcass, Voivoid were left behind, so what we hear on Cortical Tectonis is an excellent, very listenable jazz prog metal, in my opinion (sometimes getting close to electronica similar to Shultze & co). All bands in the above category often fall to the temptation of unfollowable complications, but in the end this is the style, if you don’t like it don’t listen to it. Still, the three Americans manage not to get too deep into harmonies, semitones and all sort of impossibly technical stuff that will clog your ears so much that you’ll end up saying: OK, I’ve had enough of this.
No, they have some absolutely insane jazzie/prog parts: the start of Interface for instance blows me away every time. Yes, it is not metal, I don’t have 2 ballsy riffs in the background, but it is absolutely delightful to listen to, how the melody flows into infinity, how it integrates sounds you’d never expect to hear together is just awesome.
