This release is not something unprecedented or unheard of, but I assure you that everything you will hear on Bad Time Stories is made with a lot of enthusiasm and quite a lot of knowledge about music. Practically, The Boy Who Cried Wolf is a super-band with members from bands such as: Chester (guitarist Bogdan), Breathelast/Traum (Mihai Andrei - vocals), White Walls (Serban - bass teacher), Backstage Hero/Perfect Zero For Infinity (Alex - drums), and this project was in fact a refuge for them. Frankly, when I heard that Serban had joined the band I was expecting a musical approach closer to White Walls. Yet this cannot be further from the truth, the music is simple and direct, without any technicalities, exactly how a hardcore band should be. The same applies for the other three boys.
The eight songs fit in under 20 minutes (together), and three of them are under two minutes long. Nevertheless, this time “handicap” is not felt. The songs are fast and powerful, so being longer would just lead to monotony. My favourite is the last track of the mini-album - End, perhaps because it is slightly more laid back, with slower passages alternating with the fast ones. Also very cool is the hit track of this release, Ghost Riders, presented with a video directed by the same Serban. The song dedicated to John McClane of Die Hard is also exceedingly awesome, fitting exactly like a fist to the face. Now if you ask me I would have preferred replace McClane with my childhood idol Frank Dux, because we know how he humiliated “Chang Lee” when his eyesight was affected. So, The Boy Who Cried Wolf is a completely anti-commercial affair, planned by people that grew up with this genre and can feel it in their bones. Their music is far from having appeal to the metal-devouring masses, so their success will always lay in the “basement” listeners... not many, to be honest, but always there.
