In cooperation with a lot of artists (what you see above is just the touring band), Joshua Homme released an album that continues the experimental line started when bass player and brain of the band Nick Oliveri left, on Lullabies to Paralyze. However, instead of polishing the punk-rock-anti-pop of Lullabies to Paralyze, Joshua goes the other way, trying an album with a rougher production, “dirty” drums and riffs that are almost unintelligible. I must admit that I am a bit confused: although I appreciate the effort made to get even further from the mainstream, I don’t understand what this album wants. It looks to me like a soul searching album, with the Queens of the Stone Age throwing themselves in many directions, which I can’t even classify as style. With the exception of punk/hard-rock dominating tones. An album... let’s call it experimental. Maybe if I listen to it a few more times I’ll understand better, but for now I’ll give it an 8 for lack of consistency and for a production that in places it’s more than (or less than) rough.
