I am so happy to see (and especially hear) a band arise from these borders that actually has something to say. And fortunately such bands are increasingly frequent, something I wouldn’t have expected three or four years ago. Among them, no doubt about it, there is also Valerinne – a band created at the end of last year, playing post-rock/punk/metal, with some influences from the progressive area.
Even though post-rock is not a genre that I fully understand, what is important is that Valerinne manages to make very good and original music. Kunstformen der Natur is an instrumental album, where guitar, bass and drums are melted together in a sound that is very rarely heard. Alexandru Das handles the guitar parts and gives out an impressive atmosphere along the five songs. As it can be noticed, Mircea Smarandache is a very technical drummer that is perfect adjusted to the style of Valerinne. And all this while Liviu Stoicescu enchants us with his bass lines, and is in my opinion the main attraction of this record, without belittling his colleagues’ contribution. It’s just that I’m particularly drawn to how Liviu manages to lead the music on this album.
I think it is clear for everyone that this release could have not sounded this good if Marius Costache from Asiluum hadn’t been in charge of recording, mixing and mastering it. The same applies to the studio where the recordings were made: Next Dog Studio – that provided all the necessary conditions to recod this. So, if you want to hear music without inhibition and you’re sick of all the same "standard" bands, go ahead and listen to this record. In fact you can download it for free from the Asiluum website.
