GOJIRA - L'enfant sauvage

The fact that Gojira is one of the most loyal bands in the metallic underground is no longer a secret to anyone. And this is due to the fact that they have maintained the same line-up from their founding until now. L'enfant sauvage is the Frenchmen’s fifth album, with their already well-known death/groove/progressive, as only Gojira knows how to make. I couldn’t say that their music is strongly influenced by any one particular band, because this band has a very strong personality. Nevertheless, if you are fans of Machine Head, Pantera or Sepultura, you might find it practically impossible to not like this record.

Of the 11 songs, my favourites are Explode, L'enfant sauvage, Mouth of Kala, and Liquid Fire, which reminds me a lot of Cynic (especially with the robotic voice), and its technique. And, speaking of technique, while all four members are at the top of the pack in their instrumental technique, I cannot fail to mention Mario Duplantier – an extremely gifted and original drummer, as we can rarely hear. If someone asked me for my main reason to want to see this band perform live, my answer would be quick and without hesitation: Mario Duplantier!!!

Whoever said that French metal has and has never had anything to say should better lend their ear to L'enfant sauvage, and implicitly the entire discography of Gojira. I don’t know if this will change their opinion regarding music from the Hexagon, but they’ll be most certainly impressed by what Joe Duplantier, Christian Andreu, Jean-Michel Labadie and Mario Duplantier would offer them.
