On the 8th of June, the Danes of Mnemic have unleashed upon the world a 10-song opus, and it is absolutely FABULOUS.
Mnemesis brings nothing new to this area. In fact, it doesn’t even have something new for Mnemic themselves. It’s simply an album filled with enthusiasm, giving out a ton of positive energy and good mood. The riffs coming out of Mircea Gabriel Eftemie’s guitar often remind of Meshuggah or Animals As Leaders for instance, but we also have parts where the riffage is doom-like massive. Besides, Mircea combines perfectly with Victor-Ray Salomonsen, who sometimes comes up with rather more... ambient guitar pieces, if I may say so, and these are indeed enjoyable. Guillaume Bideau is an exceptional voice, resembling Devin Townsend or Burton C. Bell at times. Of course, all these ingredients would be rather dull if they weren’t backed up by a proportionate rhythmic section and cutting edge technology.
My favourite track is, by far, Haven at the End of the World, especially due to how Guillaume performs it. In addition to it, Valves, Mnemesis, or the closing track of the album, Blue Desert in a Black Hole, are nothing to sneer at. Fortunately no song really feels out of place, so no worrying about that, I guess.
You could say that Mnemic’s music is a melange of industrial, metalcore, groove, progressive, or melodic death metal. In conclusion, if at least one of these genres is among your preferences, you’re practically guaranteed to love this band, and especially this latest record. Listen to it, because you don’t know what you’re missing!
